When people read about others making tons of money from blogging, they too think that starting a blog can get them some extra cash. When people start out blogging, most often they choose the BlogSpot platform for their first blog.
My first few blogs were on BlogSpot platform too π
But then there is a trend going around the blogosphere, when a BlogSpot blog starts earning enough money to pay for hosting etc, people want to move it to WordPress platform.
This trend can be exemplified by Amit Agarwal of Labnol, who moved his blogspot blog to WordPress. This was also the case with Harsh Agarwal, who started out blogging on BlogSpot platform and is now blogging on WordPress.
So why this trend of switching from BlogSpot to WordPress? Surely this means that WordPress is a much better platform for blogging right?
Let us take a look at why WordPress is better than BlogSpotβ¦..
[service title=”Custom Domain Name” icon=”icon: bullhorn” icon_color=”#df09d3″][/service]Although it is possible to get a custom domain name on Blogger or BlogSpot blogs as well, with WordPress self hosted blogs, it is compulsory from the off.
You can right away start building links to your blog without having to worry that one day you will need to change the domain name.
This is a good advantage of WordPress over Blogger.
[service title=”Brilliant SEO Options” icon=”icon: bullhorn” icon_color=”#df09d3″][/service]There are many SEO options on WordPress which are not available on BlogSpot or blogger blogs. Although BlogSpot recently added a few features of SEO that are found in WordPress, still BlogSpot does not nearly provide the same amount of SEO options as the WordPress platform does.
[service title=”Tons Of Premium Themes” icon=”icon: bullhorn” icon_color=”#df09d3″][/service]With BlogSpot blogs, you can only change the way your blog looks on the outside, but with WordPress, you get custom interface and special options with premium themes. For example, the theme I am using provides me with custom theme options, which can never be found on a blogger blog.
Blogger Vs WordPress
WordPress presses home its clear advantage when it comes to Plugins. WordPress has tons of plugins for various requirements that can be easily installed into a theme without having to know anything about coding, but blogspot blogs have no such feature.
If you want to change anything in your BlogSpot template, you need to alter the code, which can be a big hassle especially if you do not know coding π
Plugins is one of the biggest reasons why I shifted to WordPress for Geekworld, while I was using Blogger or BlogSpot.
[service title=”More Professional ” icon=”icon: bullhorn” icon_color=”#df09d3″][/service]If you want your blog to be know as a big brand, then have to use WordPress.
Tell me which one looks better –
Geekworldnews.Org or geekworldnews.blogspot.com? π
Using WordPress gives your blog a way more professional look than BlogSpot can. You are also likely to attract more advertisers to a WordPress blog rather than a BlogSpot blog.
[service title=”Some Ad-Networks Do Not Accept BlogSpot Blogs ” icon=”icon: bullhorn” icon_color=”#df09d3″][/service]Some Ad-networks such as BuySellAds do not accept BlogSpot blogs, they only accept self hosted blogs like those on WordPress.
Some other direct ad networks such as Tribal Fusion etc also do not accept Blogger blogs.
[service title=”You Can Have Frameworks On WordPresss ” icon=”icon: bullhorn” icon_color=”#df09d3″][/service]There are several frameworks that can be installed on WordPress like Genesis, Thesis. I had experimented with Thesis 2.0 before switching over to my current theme.
These frameworks allow you to make your own themes through easy drag and drop features which does not require any coding skills.
This is a huge advantage which WordPress has over BlogSpot blogs.
[service title=”CommentLuv <3 ” icon=”icon: bullhorn” icon_color=”#df09d3″][/service]Although I should have included this under the plugins topic, I wanted to make it a separate topic so that you understand how much I rate commentluv.
CommentLuv comments really helps build audiences and this plugin is only available to WordPress users. There have been several knock-offs that are available on BlogSpot as alternatives to CommentLuv but they are nowhere near as good as this.
[service title=”Conclusion ” icon=”icon: bullhorn” icon_color=”#df09d3″][/service]So these are the reasons why I prefer WordPress over BlogSpot, there are several other reasons, if you know any more please let me know in the comments section.

When I started my blogging journey then my first question was, Why I should choose WordPress and not other CMS softwares.
I searched a lot about it on Google at that time and I found that everybody is recommending to use WordPress and I started doing the same.
Now today I know that why people should choose WordPress. Because WordPress is an independent and easy to use content management system.
The best thing about it is, We can bring any feature in our website with just using a single plugin. That’s really good. π
I am using WordPress since last 3 years and I loved it. π

The only thing that differs the two is that wordpress has more ability to enhance website, html coding and learn business skill + expansion and blogger is standard for learning seo and search engine optimization.
They are both blogs , I would suggest blogger over WordPress for the benefit of optimization for newbies, and in general for index purposes and wordpress for moderate to advanced users for business and expansion.
